* According to the Center for Research in Implementation Science and Prevention (2017): Historically, it has taken an average of 17 years for research knowledge to translate into clinical practice. Only 14 percent of research ever reaches practitioners. 
DHCC identifies knowledge translation as a streamlined, adaptable process to efficiently move research-based knowledge and practices into the hands of clinicians to provide latest ‘best care anywhere’ across the Military Health System (MHS). DHCC’s conceptualization of knowledge translation draws from the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) definition of implementation science and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s definition of knowledge translation:
NIH defines implementation science as ( the “study of methods to promote the integration of research findings and evidence into health care policy and practice…which seeks to understand the behavior of healthcare professionals and other stakeholders as a key variable in the sustainable uptake, adoption, and implementation of evidence-based interventions. (NIH, 2016) 
According to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), knowledge translation (KT) is defined as “a dynamic and iterative process that includes synthesis, dissemination, exchange and ethically-sound application of knowledge to improve the health…provide more effective health services and products and strengthen the health care system. (CIHR, 2004) 
DHCC uses analytics, implementation science and evidence synthesis to translate and implement findings from psychological health research to directly impact providers, service members and their families.
DHCC’s process of knowledge translation/implementation science ensures that empirically based health care knowledge is more rapidly disseminated and easily utilized by (MHS) clinical providers for the benefit of MHS consumers.
