Research

Research on leishmaniasis is ongoing in both the civilian and military sectors including:

  • Military Infectious Diseases Research Program (MIDRP)
    • Responsible for managing DoD research on naturally occurring infectious diseases including leishmaniasis.)
  • Department of Defense Protocol for the Use of Sodium Stibogluconate (Pentostam®) as a Treatment for Leishmaniasis (ClinicalTrial.gov # NCT00657618
    • The primary objective of this protocol is to collect safety and efficacy data on the use of Pentostam for treatment of laboratory-confirmed leishmaniasis (all three forms). The estimated completion date for this study, which started in October 2004, is December 2017.
